More details
The Stevia (Stevia Rebaudiana Bertoni) comes from an ancient plant in the Amazon area. For hundreds of years, indigenous peoples have used the leaves of stevia as a natural sweetener. The leaves are 30 times sweeter than sugar and the stevia extracts can be even 200 times sweeter. For many years the stevia extracts have been used in Japan as safe, natural, non-caloric sweeteners. They use it to sweeten everything from soy sauce to pickles, confections and soft drinks. The stevia leaves contain proteins, fiber, iron, phosphorus, calcium, potassium, zinc and vitamins A and C.
Research has shown that stevia is useful for people with diabetes because it stabilizes blood sugar levels. It also lowers elevated blood pressure (hypertension), dilates blood vessels, its digestive, increases urination, helps prevent dental cavities, reduces gas and stomach acidity and prevents obesity.
